Four militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in the forests of Boniyar area in northern Baramulla district on Thursday, news agency GNS reported.
Quoting official sources, GNS said that a search party of army's 5 Grenadiers intercepted a group of militants at Torna Post in the forests of Boniyar at around 8.30 am.
"After being intercepted, the militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight which continued intermittently till 12.30 pm."
Quoting an unnamed army officer, the news agency reported that four unidentified militants have been killed and their identity and affiliation are being ascertained.
"Three bodies were recovered at around 1.30 pm and later one more body was recovered in the evening as the area is a high terrain with dense forest cover," the officer was quoted as saying.
However the J&K police and the army told Greater Kashmir that they were still ascertaining the details.
Kashmir range inspector general of police Swyam Prakash Pani said they are collecting the details about the Boniyar incident.
Army's Srinagar-based spokesman, colonel Rajesh Kalia said: "We don't have any information yet about the number of militants killed in the operation."
The army started the combing operation but there is no confirmation yet about the number of militants killed in the operation, senior superintendent of police Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain said.
