"Two militants were killed in the initial exchange of firing while a soldier was critically injured. The injured soldier was immediately airlifted to 92-base army hospital in Srinagar where he succumbed to his injuries," he added.
The official said two more militants were killed and four soldiers injured later in the day during the second round of firing near Kulsoori Nard—15 kms away from Tangdhar town.
The bodies of militants are being brought to Tangdhar for medico-legal formalities and the injured soldiers were airlifted to army hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment, the official said.
According to army officials, this is the second "major infiltration attempt" foiled in Kupwara district in three days. On Tuesday; an infiltration bid was foiled in Machhil sector of Kupwara district, they said. The two-day gun-battle had left one militant and a soldier dead. Four other soldiers were also injured in that operation.
Army officials said search operation in both areas is on.
