Baby Asifa and her criminals

Our humanity is being desensitized with each passing day. The day is near when we will lose emotions like empathy, sympathy, and pity. In this age of post-truth, at times, I feel that even a monarchy is comparatively better than a democracy. Monarchy is unfair since people do not get to choose their rulers but then they also do not get the unbearable baggage associated with it. The downside of democracy seems to be outdoing the good it brings. The mad race for power has violated the sense of justice and morality, especially in India.

Why are these two men: the Minister for Forest-Chaudhary Lal Singh and Minister for Commerce and Industries-Chander Prakash Ganga still in office? This is what I would like to begin with, even before talking about the case. Apart from ratifying a pro-rapist rally, these men questioned their own Chief Minister’s credibility. The BJP sent them there to ensure Hindu vote for the 2019 elections, even if it embarrasses the PDP. How much more does a woman CM have to overlook for the sake of being a titular head? This is not even about Indian forces being accused and the valley Muslim being a victim, in the name of Azadi. This has no such political baggage. We wouldn’t have even asked for justice if that were the case. The civilians are killed here in cold blood but there is no point seeking justice because we don’t qualify as humans in India. Anyway, nothing can be said about the final fate of the case but what is glaringly apparent is that these two ministers chose not to even visit the poor girl’s family since they were busy protecting the rapist-murderer with a tricolor and Jai Sri ram slogans.

They say they have no communal interest and they’re simply seeking a CBI inquiry. Yet they name their organization as – Hindu Ekta Manch, instead of Insaaf Manch or on those lines. They are so blatantly and brazenly telling you in your face that they want a ‘Hindu justice’- which can’t allow a ‘Viraat Hindu’ to be declared as a culprit of a Muslim. They draw your attention to some other incidents where the rapist was a Muslim of a Hindu girl, as if that would square it off. Even then there’s no comparison since there were no rallies in the support of accused. There was no Muslim Ekta Manch. There were no cabinet ministers joining their rallies. The rape is horrific but the way Indian polity has communalized and politicized this incident has sent shivers down the spine of every conscious human in the world. Why bring in religion here? It doesn’t matter what the CBI does, as per them, but they would achieve their objective of standing with their Hindu vote bank and doing the best for now- i.e. buy time. Those apologists who say they do not seek amnesty for the accused do not realize that doing so was never an option. They are doing whatever is nearest to it to appear as the saviors of even rapists of their vote bank. And they have already done that, irrespective of what transpires next.

Baby Asifa’s mother has been left with just her clothes and a school-bag. It’s hard but you’ll have to do it. Think of your own daughter/cousin/sister/niece to realize what it is. We wouldn’t have seen it through a religious prism but those who did it did it because the victim was a Muslim. Those who do rallies to save this animal do it under ‘Hindu Ekta Manch’. And anywhere in the world, if a minority is treated this way because of its religion, all of them are bound to feel insecure and bound to view it through religious prism since the perpetrators openly confess having such motives.

Some Snippets from the police charge sheet which we need to read to come to grips with the animality of the case: One doesn’t have the courage to reproduce it here. It’s so gruesome, horrible, indescribable. One shudders to even read a line.

This is not a regular crime, but a manifestation of Hindutva, done for communal reasons, and now the party in power is brazenly shielding the culprit on the communal basis and organizations doing rallies in the name of ‘Jai Sri Ram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. If God forbid, any of us ever does it, wouldn’t we die of shame and seek hanging of such a beast or would we come out to support just because the criminal shares our religion? Even you observe Bandh for this man, and you want to sell us the idea of such a ‘largest democracy’?
