Kashmir Bar Association on Saturday filed a Public Interest Litigation in the State High Court seeking ban on use of pellet guns by forces.
The related petition has been sent to the Chief Justice of the High Court for his decision whether to treat it as PIL before being listed for hearing. Bar Association President Mian Qayoom said the lawyers' body has filed the PIL before the High Court and sought ban on pellet guns.
"Since pellets have caused grave injuries to youth and children, we decided to file the PIL," he said.
The Bar has made the J&K Home Department, police, and medical authorities as party to the petition.
Qayoom said if the Chief Justice approves it as PIL, the first hearing will be likely on Monday.
State's Advocate General Jahangir Iqbal Ganaie told KNS that the Bar Association has filed the petition.
"The petition was filed on Saturday afternoon and it has been sent to the Chief Justice for his decision whether to consider it as PIL before being listed for hearing," he said. KNS
