Some civil society and religious groups in Jammu have come to the rescue of thousands of Kashmiri people stranded in the winter capital for days owing to closure of the Srinagar-Jammu highway.
Most of the stranded passengers were accommodated in a madrassa in Bathindi area, while many were given shelter in Gurdwara Bibi Chand Kour and a temple near the bus stand.
“All gurudwaras across the city and along the highway have already opened their doors to the stranded people. We provided them food and shelter,” Tarlochan Singh Wazir, president State Gurdwara Parbandak Committee said.
The Bawe Wali Mata temple at Bahu Fort is also serving daily food and tea to the stranded people staying in nearby locations.
A madrassa opposite Wave Mall, with donations from some residents, serves food to over 300 stranded passengers daily and also arranged accommodations for them.
Meanwhile, National Conference opened its Jammu headquarters Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan for some distressed passengers.
