Civilian killed, 3 injured in Srinagar grenade blast

Srinagar, June 26: A civilian was killed and three others including a woman injured in a grenade attack in the Barbarshah area of Srinagar Saturday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Bhat (25) son of Abdul Rashid Bhat resident of Hagoora Beerwah Budgam. He was running a poultry shop. The other injured were identified as Shakeela Bano, Hilal Ahmad and Shahid Nazir. “They are having minor injuries and are admitted in SMHS Hospital for treatment,” a senior police officer told the Greater Kashmir.

   

The officer said that militants hurled a grenade at the Central Reserve Police Force party of 132 Battalion. “The grenade missed the target and exploded on the road resulting in injuries to four civilians,” he said. “Operation is underway to track the attackers,” the officer said, adding that senior officers of police and paramilitary forces arrived at the spot to take stock of the situation.

“Our people are safe,” Public Relations Officer, CRPF, Abiram Pankaj told the Greater Kashmir. “Operation in the area has been launched.”

This is the fourth militancy related incident in Srinagar city in the last over a week. On Tuesday evening, militants shot dead a police officer in Nowgam area of Srinagar. Last Thursday militants shot dead a policeman in Eidgah area of Srinagar.
