Rifle of a policeman was snatched during clashes at Makhama village of Magam in central Kashmir's Budgam district on Friday. At least five persons sustained severe injuries in the clashes.
Reports and witnesses said that a pro-freedom procession was taken out in Makhama after Friday prayers. Later clashes erupted with cops firing teargas shells, resorting to aerial firing and people throwing stones on the police.
Eyewitnesses told Greater Kashmir that forces also fired pellets.
According to a police statement, a scuffle took place between two groups over some issue. "Police reached the spot immediately. However, some miscreants started pelting stones on the police. During this incident some unknown persons snatched an INSAS rifle and fled away," police said. However, later in the evening police said the rifle was found in a nullah in the same village.
