A special mobile magistrate here on Tuesday discharged the French journalist who was arrested by the police in Srinagar recently on charges of visa violation and ordered release of all his belongings.
Paul Comiti was arrested on December 10 from press enclave here following which the police station Kotihibagh had registered a case vide FIR No 87/2017 under section 14 (B) of the Passport Act, against him.
Comiti, who was out on bail, was discharged after the magistrate heard the prosecution and the defence counsel.
Comiti was arrested on allegations of shooting a documentary on Kashmir's pellet victims, and booked under the Passport Act.
An official said that Comiti was carrying out journalistic activities in Kashmir while staying on a business visa.
Following his arrest, head of French embassy's counsellor section flew to Srinagar and met the police.
Comiti was released from police custody on December 12 evening, but his belongings were still with the police.
The magistrate on Tuesday ordered the release of all his belongings and said that no charge was made out against the journalist.
Comiti was now with the French embassy counsellor section head Philippe Ducornet in Srinagar.
