Dilapidated road near GB Pant Hospital irks commuters

Srinagar, June 10: Dilapidated road near GB Pant Hospital here poses risk to commuters and pedestrains.

Locals said the road had caved in several months ago due to “engineering flaw” of SMC while constructing a drain in 2019 as sewage outlet to nearby Jhelum.

   

“Authorities carried the macadamization of road but left out this portion. It is a dangerous point here as this catches motorists by surprise who often find it difficult to apply break while passing over this stretch,” said Ghulam Rasool Chadino of Shivpora.

He added that several two wheeler riders have fallen in the trap and received injuries.

“Authorities must have applied mind and repaired this portion on priority. But they macadamized portion of road but left this one unattended,” he rued.

Locals said that “negligence” of authorities have left motorists and pedestrians at the mercy of God. The dilapidated portion of road and “engineered flaws” has consumed human life.

On the same spot, a 29-year-old youth from Shivpora had died few years ago when his motorcycle turned turtle due to the bumps on the road and he was run over by a truck there.

The caving in of road on Highway in front of G B Hospital has led to several accidents on the spot as vehicles moving towards Sonwar crashed in the crater creating due to sinking of drainage.

The present dilapidated road as per locals has been a death trap for drivers.
