Education deptt shifts focus on student counseling, frames duty roster for teachers

Srinagar, June 6: The School Education Department has shifted its focus on the counseling of students in government as well as private educational institutions across Kashmir.

The move comes apart from holding online classes through various digital platforms besides broadcasting radio classes for the students across Kashmir.

   

The Director School Education Kashmir in an official communication addressed to all the Chief Education Officers (CEOs) has said that the endeavour of the department was to reach out to every student and counsel them as per their need.

“In this context, the nominated district teacher counselors are connecting about 1000 students and provide them on-call counseling on a daily basis,” the official communication reads. As per the official figures, around 18,065 students across Kashmir received counseling sessions from teachers till May this year.

This is being done by engaging around 100 teacher counselors on a daily basis to reach out to the students via phone calls.

“The counseling cell of the directorate has roped in doctors whose services are being used to counsel the identified students as and when required,” the document reads. The official communication addressed to the CEOs said that to enable students of government as well as private schools desirous to avail the facility of counseling, a weekly roster plan had been prepared by the child protection and counseling cell of the directorate.

“The teacher counselors should be directed to attend calls from the desirous students on the scheduled dates between 11 am to 3 pm,” the document reads.
