Come admission season and parents have to run from pillar to post securing admissions for their tiny tots. Clueless where to go, not just the parents but even their wards are put under tremendous pressure due to the taxing task of "making it to the selection list". Not many are aware that concept of schooling has witnessed a paradigm shift with setting up of schools such as Foundation World School at Airport road Humhama where the core focus is on stress free and innovative schooling.
Mubashir Wafai, vice chairman of The Foundation Trust which runs Foundation World School says stress-free ways of learning and an international curriculum designed in Cambridge University is what sets the school apart. "The admission policy is based on first-come first-serve basis and in case the number of applicants is more than the number of seats, the preference would be given to siblings and then on the basis of distance from the school," Wafai says. Infact a visit to the school campus is so heartening as some children are seen playing while some of them take a nap in the sleeping room.
While it is commonly believed that for 3 to 5 year olds, the major brain developments take place during this stage, Foundation World School has a picture perfect premises. There are courtyards, terraces, and spaces to eat and play on, with an open ground floor for art and creativity. Classrooms are brightly colored, and the building facade is a grid of traditional things with loads of different sized windows to gaze out of. The importance of library in this kindergarten, to develop the reading skills in little children is immense. To ensure that culturally children are connected to their roots, it is ensured that moral education and cultural values are imbibed among children at the Foundation World School. "Children of this school will not only experience international standard of education but will also come out as individuals who are culturally grounded to their roots," Wafai said.
Parents whose children are already a part of this school heap praise on the out of the box teaching methods here. "I used to think of stress-free education but preparing my child for these interviews forced me to make him write, when his fine motor skills were not fully developed. My joy knew no bounds when I came to know that there is no homework and no stress on writing at entry level. However, the children are made to exercise their tiny hands and fingers using sand trays, salt trays, etc. in order to develop their fine motor skills," said a parent. The association between this school and the Cambridge University is such that teacher-training programmes are a common feature here. Among other attractions includes a swimming pool and a football field. "I was glad to know that apart from the kindergarten, the main campus is a picturesque 8-acre land 8 kilometres away from this place which has a nice football ground where students from class 1st to 12th are based,"said another parent.
