Farooq Abdullah consults party leaders from Jammu

Srinagar, June 23: A day before the all-party meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday presided over a meeting at his Gupkar residence, which was attended by several party leaders from Jammu province. The meeting was also attended by NC’s provincial president Jammu Devender Singh Rana.

Addressing media persons after the meeting, Rana said he was hopeful that Dr Abdullah being “the tallest leader of J&K will represent people with wisdom.” “Dialogue and inclusiveness is the vital essence of democracy. Any dialogue that can take us out of this morass and any dialogue which will lead to welfare of Jammu and Kashmir and its people, we are all for it,” Rana said.

   

He said the entire team of leaders from Jammu which was in Srinagar “have reposed faith in Dr Farooq Abdullah because he is not only the president of National Conference but tallest leader of Jammu and Kashmir.” “He has assured us that he will represent the people of Jammu and Kashmir with his wisdom and he alone can take this dialogue forward for the welfare of people of J&K,” Rana said. He said as far Jammu is concerned, “the pluralistic Jammu has its own aspirations and desires.” “We are for a singular Jammu and Kashmir, have always stood for unity of J&K and equitable justice to all regions and sub-regions of J&K. We will always hold aspirations of people of J&K as much as for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh,” Rana said.

Rana said Dr Farooq Abdullah is going for a dialogue with the Prime Minister which is “an inclusive one”. “We are hopeful that this dialogue will lead to betterment of Jammu and Kashmir, peace and prosperity of the region. We are not here for power politics but for people of Jammu and Kashmir and will always stand for them,” Rana said.

He said there will be “no compromise on Article 370”.

When asked if he expected any electoral outcomes from the all-party meeting, Rana said: “Everything is not about elections. Right now we are at cross-roads of history and dialogue is the way forward. Dr Farooq is the tallest of the tall leaders and best person suited to represent people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Rana added.

The Government of India has invited all political parties from Jammu and Kashmir for a meeting on June 24 in New Delhi. The meeting is going to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence.
