Militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Saturday said its commander Fayaz Ahmed Bhat attained martyrdom while fighting army in North Kashmir's Tangmarg area.
"Fayaz along with his associates was on a mission when Indian Army personnel fired upon them. There was an Army ambush and Fayaz lost his life during a brief gunfight. However, his other associates managed to escape from the spot," Hizb's Operational spokesperson told Srinagar-based news agency CNS on phone.
He said: "Fayaz was an active militant and was in the field for the past six years. He was an active member of 'Burhanuddin Sarhadi Squad' and had participated in various successful operations against Indian Army in border regions."
Hizb Operational Field Commander, Divisional Commander North Kashmir and Deputy Supreme Commander Saifullah Khalid have paid rich tribute to the slain militant and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family, the Hizb spokesman said. CNS
