Former Governor Lt Gen Sinha passes away
Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor, Lt Gen S K Sinha, passed away at a hospital in New Delhi this morning after brief illness. He was 92.
His family said he passed away at 10:45 AM at the Army Research and Referral hospital.
He was first admitted to the base hospital on November 1 with a fracture in his femur bone and ribs and was later shifted to the R and R hospital after some complications developed.
He is survived by his wife, son and three daughters.
They said his funeral will take place Friday noon at the Brar Square crematorium in New Delhi.
Sinha has served as Jammu and Kashmir Governor (2003 to 2008) and led the first batch of Indian troops who entered J&K in 1947.
He resigned from service after the government superseded him and appointed General A S Vaidya as the new army chief.
Lt Gen Sinha had joined army in 1943 and has also served as India's Ambassador to Nepal and as the Governor of Assam.
As a mark of respect to Lt Gen S K Sinha, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided that State Mourning shall be observed for 3 days w.e.f 17.11.2016 (Thursday) to 19.11.2016 (Saturday).
As per an order issued by the General Administration Department, the national and state flag shall fly at half-mast during the State Mourning on all buildings and places where these are flown regularly and there shall be no official entertainment/function during the state mourning.
Governor N N Vohra has expressed grief over the demise. In a message of condolence the Governor described Lt. Gen. Sinha as an efficient administrator who had served people with commitment.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has also condoled the demise. In her condolence message, the Chief Minister said Lt. Gen. Sinha laid strong imprints of his personality in the state during his stint as Governor.
Former Chief Minister and President National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah condoled the death and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.
Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in RajyaSabha, GhulamNabi Azad, has expressed condolence at the demise of former Governor.
Provincial President National Conference, Jammu, Devender Singh Rana also expressed grief over the passing away of General Sinha.
Deputy Chief Minister DrNirmal Singh, Advisor to Chief Minister, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, JKPCC Chief G.A. Mir also condoled the demise.
The officers and staff of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board have condoled the demise of Lt. Gen. Sinha, who was the former Chairman of the Board.
