177 single-day Covid cases in J&K, highest rise in 8 weeks

Srinagar: J&K had its highest single day rise in Covid cases in the past eight weeks today with 177 testing positive. However, no death was attributed to Covid19 in the UT in the past 24 hours, J&K Government said.

In the Kashmir division, 144 people were found positive today, the official bulletin on Covid19 by the J&K Government said. In addition, 36 people in the Jammu division also tested positive. A total of 177 cases on 11 November was the highest single day tally of cases since 22 September this year.

In the past weight weeks, COVID19 cases have fluctuated but have majorly stayed around 100. Over the past week, the cases have been ranging around 150 though.

Although the number of cases has seen a spurt, the positive percentage this week has remained the same. During the past one day, 54,501 tests were carried out in J&K, 177 positives translates into 0.32 percent positivity rate.

Among the new cases, 63 were from district Srinagar. District Baramulla had 34 new cases while 17 were from district Budgam. In Jammu division, 16 people tested positive today while all other districts in J&K had cases in single digit numbers.

In one day, 96 people were declared to have recovered post isolation or hospitalization. 78 of these from Kashmir division and 18 from Jammu division. Currently, there are 1311 active cases in the UT, 1138 in Kashmir division alone. The number of active cases in district Srinagar has risen to 605.

The J & K Government today said an intensification of vaccination had been started. Today, nearly a lakh vaccine doses (99922) were administered in the UT. Of these, 2903 were the first dose recipients. Nearly 10,000 vaccines were given in district Srinagar, the Government said today.
