2 Army personnel killed in Rajouri mine blast

Rajouri: An army officer and a soldier were killed in a mine blast that took place on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kalal area of Nowshera in Rajouri district on Saturday.

Both these soldiers were deployed on a forward location in the Kalal area of Nowshera sector.

Official sources said that an army team was on routine duty at a forward location on the LoC in Kalal when a powerful explosion rocked the area. The explosion was heard several kilometers away.

“Three army soldiers, who included one army officer of the rank of Lieutenant, one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and a Sepoy were injured,” said official sources adding that all three were shifted to army medical facility where two of the personnel succumbed.

The deceased army personnel were identified as Lieutenant Rishi Kumar and Sepoy Manjit Singh. A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was under treatment.

Meanwhile, PRO Defence Jammu Lt Col Devender Anand, in an official statement, said, “On October 30, during an area domination patrol in Nowshera sector in Rajouri district, a mine blast occurred, wherein, two Indian army soldiers suffered critical injuries and later succumbed to their injuries. Another soldier, who received injuries, was evacuated and is under treatment.”

“Lt Rishi Kumar and Sepoy Manjit were brave and extremely committed to the profession of soldiering and have made the supreme sacrifice for the nation in the line of active duty. Lt Rishi Kumar was a resident of Begusarai, Bihar while Sepoy Manjit Singh was a resident of - Sirvewala Bhatinda, Punjab. The nation and Indian army shall forever remain indebted to the brave-hearts for their supreme sacrifice,” Lt Col Anand said.
