2 militant associates held in Sopore: Police

Sopore: Police on Tuesday said that they have apprehended two LeT militant associates in north Kashmir’s Sopore town. Police official said that acting on a specific information, a joint naka was established by Sopore police along with Army’s 22 RR and 179 Bn CRPF at Shalimar Colony crossing on Tuesday evening, during which two suspects identified as Asif Rasheed War S/O Abdul Rasheed War and Altaf Hussain Najar S/O Abdul Ahad Najar, both residents of Natnoosa Kupwara were apprehended, police said.

Upon their search, a hand grenade and incriminating material was recovered from their possession, the police official added. “On preliminary enquiry, the apprehenced persons disclosed their allegiance to the prescribed militants outfit LeT and had intended to lob the grenade at an undisclosed location in Kupwara district with an intention to cause casualties,” the police official said.

   

Accordingly, case FIR No. 275/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Sopore.

Investigation is going on and more arrests are anticipated, police said.
