2 militants, 2 soldiers killed in Sunderbani: Army

Rajouri: Two foreign militants and two army personnel were killed in the Sunderbani encounter today, a defence statement said.

The encounter, according to the statement, broke out at Daddal village of Sunderbani in Rajouri on the ninth day of a Cordon and Search Operation which was launched after reports of suspicious movement.

   

The statement issued through Jammu-based defence PRO said that based on information regarding infiltration and movement of militants in the area of Dadal in Sundarbani sector, army had launched extensive search operations on 29 June which was going on continuously since then.

“Subsequently, the information was corroborated on 8 July and a search and destroy patrol seeking proactive engagement with the militants spotted the militants in Dadal forest area and challenged them,” it said.

“The militants opened fire and lobbed hand grenades leading to a fierce encounter in which two foreign militants from Pakistan have been killed and two AK-47 rifles and ammunition in heavy quantity recovered from them.”

Army also informed about two fatalities on its side in this operation. “Naib Subedar Sreejith M and Sepoy Maruprolu Jaswanth Reddy received fatal injuries,” army said, adding that the operation was going on.
