BJP activist’s guard decamps with 2 weapons in Kupwara

Srinagar: A Special Police Official who was guarding makeshift residence of a Bharatiya Janata Party activist in Kupwara district of north Kashmir along with his associate decamped with two weapons. Three policemen were suspended soon after the incident, police officials said.

The incident took place in Sulkoot area of Kupwara on Sunday night , when the SPO fled with two weapons from makeshift residence of Abdul Rasheed Zargar, a BJP activist. The PSO was guarding the residence of the BJP activist, who originally hails from Lolab.

The SPO has been identified as Saqib Ahmad Tantary and his associate as Arif Ahmad Mir. They have left their mobile phones at their respective residences.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Kupwara, Yougal Manhas said that three Personal Security Officers of the activist have been suspended.

“The SPO was guard duty and he knew where were the keys of box in which weapon was,” Manhas told Greater Kashmir. “Three PSO have been suspended.” SSP said that they are working on some leads. “The hunt is on to track them,” Manhas said. “Hopefully we will get them as the efforts are on."
