COVID19 | 4 deaths, 132 new cases in J&K

Srinagar: While the daily case tally of COVID19 has undergone a substantial drop over the past one week in Kashmir, the deaths caused by the respiratory viral infection continue at the same pace. Today, four deaths were attributed to the Virus in J&K, while 132 people tested positive.

In the past seven days, as per the analysis of official data, the overall positive percentage of J&K has remained the same. In December, the positive percentage in Kashmir division has been recorded as 0.5 while in Jammu division it is 0.2. In the last week of November, the positive percentage of samples from Kashmir division was the same as 0.5 percent and that of Jammu was 0.1 percent, the official figures reveal.

However, over the past week, a high number of cases have been detected among travelers, which add to both the case tally and positive percentage. If the number of cases of travelers testing positive is deducted, a senior data analyst in the health and medical education department said, the case tally is on a slide in J&K.

On December 1, deducting the positive cases among travelers, J&K had 145 new cases. On December 2, the number of locally detected positive cases (without travelers) was 153, on December 3 the number was 148. The number fell down to 138 on December 4 and jumped to 160 on December 5. From November 15 to November 21, the number of cases reported in J&K stood at 1021, which dropped to 952 in the week that followed. Between November 22 and November 28, 952 cases were detected and between November 29 to December 5, the cases fell down to 901.

However, the number of deaths have gone on at the same pace. On Tuesday, the official bulletin on COVID19 attributed four deaths to the viral infection, two each in Kashmir and Jammu divisions. In the past one week, 11 deaths caused by SARS-CoV2 were recorded in J&K.

Today, 132 new cases were recorded in the UT – 103 in Kashmir division and 29 in Jammu division. District Srinagar had 32 new cases, Baramulla 19, Budgam 25 and district Jammu 15. In the past 24 hours, 47917 tests were carried out in the UT. The number of vaccination doses delivered on Tuesday was reported as 58040.
