Srinagar: Apni Party president Syed Altaf Bukhari on Monday said that the foundation of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir in 1999 was also “tagged by many as the proxy of veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani’. Bukhari was responding to comments made by the People's Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti in which she had said that BJP was creating proxy parties in J&K.

“Usually I don’t want to comment on such issues as it has become a usual thing for political opponents to tag the newly formed parties ( as team B,C). I have a great regard for Mehbooba ji but if she can recollect that when her party came into formation in 1999, everyone used to tell them that it is a creation of Delhi Advani saab..that it is their proxy’ said Bukhari. “Mehbooba ji should not levy such allegations as she knows it well that when their party came into existence, people had referred to PDP with similar names.

If it is true that they (PDP) is a proxy of Advani ji, then only will I respond to this question (of being asked to respond to Mehbooba’s comments)” Bukhari said. Bukhari said the trend “one being noticed clearly signifies that the person is making some flutter”.

It may be mentioned that PDP President Mehbooba Mufti Sunday said that the aim of the “proxy parties created by the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir was to make the unconstitutional decision of August 5, 2019 as constitutional decision through them in the assembly”.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a party convention in Bandipora, Mufti had said that the policy of BJP had been to create division among regional parties in J&K.
