Forces search several Shopian villages

Shopian: The security forces launched cordon and search operations in three villages of south Kashmir’s Shopian district since Saturday morning.

A police official said that joint teams of army, CRPF and police personnel ring-fenced Khojpora Zainpora village of the district at around 7.30 am and carried out a door to door search operation.

The official said that in the afternoon forces surrounded Pirpora Keegam and Chitragam Klan villages and conducted search operations.

“The search operations, according to the official, were launched after the forces were tipped off about the presence of militants in these areas”, he said.

All the operations were later called off as no militant was found hiding in these areas.
