Give up gun, serve nation: GoC to militants
Srinagar: Stating that there are elements ‘who manipulate youth to join path of militancy’, General Officer Commanding 15 Corps, Lt General D P Pandey on Wednesday appealed the militants to “shun the gun and serve the nation”.
“Come home and serve the nation,” the senior Army General told reporters during a function at Shopian. “Serve the society also,” he said.
He asked the militant to be aware of “white collar terrorists,”. “White collar terrorists manipulate you to choose the path of violence,” he said. “Return home and do not indulge in violence,” Lt Gen Pandey said.
“The families of white collar terrorists are well settled,” he said. “ Youth who pick gun have been devastated,” he said adding that youth are hope of their parent as well as nation.
The top Army General said that at the age of 17 or 20 nobody is mature and easily vulnerable to get swayed away. “After 25 years of age a person becomes mature. If there is any difficulty, youth can come to us and we will show them the right path,” he said.
Corps Commander said that “white-collar terrorism is a factory”. “ If one terrorist dies then next is born. These white-collar terrorists research about a particular youth, about his family issues and then manipulate them to pick up gun,” he said adding the families of “white-collar terrorists” always remain well-off. “The parents of youth who pick up guns should ask these white-collar militants to let their children also pick up guns.”
Lt Gen Pandey informed that there is decrease in recruitment of local youth into militant ranks and decline further. “Such things will end once people will cooperate with security agencies more,” he said.
