Higher reaches receive snowfall

Srinagar: Higher reaches in Kashmir on Thursday received fresh snowfall owing to Western Disturbance, a phenomenon that brings change in weather, passing over Jammu and Kashmir.

Reports of snowfall were received from Gulmarg, Tangmarg, Gurez, Sonamarg, Zojila, Drass, Razdan Pass, Peer Ki Gali, Mughal Road and other higher reaches.

The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district, received around 3 inches of snowfall while in other higher reaches snow depth varied from 1 inch to 4 inches.

Meanwhile, Meteorological Department Srinagar has predicted more rain and snow today and a spell of greater intensity from 26 December.

"Present weather conditions are likely to continue till the next 24 hours. Another snow spell of greater intensity is most likely during December 26-27th. Expect widespread light to moderate snow in plains of Kashmir, rain in Jammu and moderate snow at scattered places of Ladakh especially Kargil Zanskar region. Light snow is also possible at some places in Leh district" read the MeT statement.
