Jammu: Health Department has alerted its COVID sampling teams following detection of six inter-district travelers from Chenab Valley who arrived in Jammu district for winter season.

Even as Jammu district recorded 33 COVID19 positive cases in a single day spike, the officials in health department said that the cases may increase and sampling has also been increased to monitor the situation.

“Six travelers came to the testing camp at Gandhi Nagar and they were tested COVID19 positive. They had travel history from Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah and adjoining areas of Chenab valley,” said the official.

The official said that “We apprehend that the COVID cases may spike amid inter-district and inter-region migration of people from Kashmir Valley, Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal during winter season to Jammu district.” The official said they have increased sampling of COVID19.

“Tomorrow too, we apprehend there may be a spike in cases. In the months of December, 2021 and January, 2022, the case may continue to rise due to migration from winter zones and marriages,” the official added.

The official said that the loss of life of infected persons is very less due to double vaccination even as most of the cases are Delta variants. Those who died of COVID19 had co morbidity.
