J&K politicians across party lines condemn Zewan attack

Srinagar: Political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir cutting across party lines have condemned the attack on a police vehicle in Zewan area in the outskirts here.

Soon after the incident, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah took to Twitter and condemned the attack.

“Terrible news of a terror attack on a police bus on the outskirts of Srinagar. I unequivocally condemn this attack while at the same time send my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased & prayers for the injured” Omar wrote on Twitter.

Former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party president, Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the attack. “Terribly sad to hear about the Srinagar attack in which two policemen were killed. GOIs false narrative of normalcy in Kashmir stands exposed yet there has been no course correction. My condolences to the bereaved families,” Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.

Apni Party President Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari has also condemned the Zewan militant attack. In a statement issued here, Bukhari termed the incident as the “most reprehensible and heinous act where two precious lives were lost in cold blood”.

“These acts of senseless bloodshed have always been responsible for adding more to the existing miseries of the people living in J&K. Every time such an ominous attack happens, either a mother loses a beloved son or a daughter becomes an orphan. These inhumane attacks have no place in any civilized society and there needs to be an end to this mayhem now” Bukhari said.

Bukhari said he shared the pain and sorrow of the bereaved families and extended heartfelt condolences to kith and kin of the deceased.

“I express my profound solidarity with bereaved family members in this time of despair and pray for the eternal peace to the departed souls. I also pray for the speedy recovery of those officials who got injured in this attack,” Bukhari said.

People’s Conference chairman Sajad Lone condemned the attack calling it “cowardly and a dastardly attack”. “Yet again a cowardly and a dastardly attack. Strongly condemn the attack. My heart goes out for the families. My prayers. May the killers rot in hell” Lone wrote on Twitter.

BJP leader and former legislator Devender Singh Rana has also condemned the attack terming it a “dastardly act”.

In a statement, Rana expressed anguish “over the terror ambush on a police vehicle near Zewan in Srinagar, resulting in the martyrdom of two personnel, saying such barbaric acts were highly reprehensible.”

“My heart goes to the families, who have lost their valiant sons in the dastardly act”, Rana, currently on a two-day visit to the border district of Rajouri, said in a message, adding that terrorism has no place in a civilised world and those indulging in such barbaric acts were the enemies of humanity.

Rana conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for peace to the departed souls and strength to their relatives and friends to bear this irreparable loss.

The BJP leader also wished speedy recovery to the valiant injured personnel and prayed for their well-being. He expressed solidarity with their families.

Srinagar Mayor and Apni Party leader Junaid Azim Mattu also took to Twitter to condemn the attack. “ Terrible news coming from Zewan, Srinagar where a bus ferrying @JmuKmrPolice personnel has been attacked by terrorists. My prayers for those injured” Mattu wrote on Twitter.

The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has also condemned the attack on the police vehicle. In a statement, JKPCC spokesperson expressed grief over the loss of police personnel and injuries to several others. The spokesperson termed the attack as “mindless and inhuman act”.

JKPCC conveyed heartfelt condolences to families of martyred police personnel and expressed solidarity with them and also prayed for speedy recovery of injured personnel, the statement said.

The security situation has deteriorated to a large extent and the government must take measures to contain loss of lives, the JKPCC spokesperson added.
