Mother-daughter duo arrested for holding protests after encounter: Police

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday arrested a mother-daughter duo on charges of holding protests after a recent encounter between militants and security forces in Rangreth area on the outskirts of Srinagar.

The duo has been booked in the FIR vide number 209 registered in Police Station Sadder. The FIR had been registered on Monday evening after protests broke out in Rangreth area soon after a chance encounter.

   

The arrested women are residents of Wanbal Rawalpora and they have been booked under Section 147, 148 (routing) ,149 (Unlawful assembly) and 326 (Voluntary causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means). They have been lodged at Women’s Police Station, Rambagh.

“They have been arrested and investigations are on,” IGP Kashmir, Zone, Vijay Kumar said. Police sources said that the duo was identified from video footage. Police said that FIR is open.

It needs to be mentioned that on Monday, during a chance and brief encounter, police had said that two LeT militants were killed in Rangreth area. Soon after the encounter groups of people that include women staged protests.

The protesters fought pitched battles with deployed security forces and later dispersed peacefully.
