Poonch: J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina on Tuesday stated that Gujjar-Bakerwals and “Pahari tribal suffered for last 70 years because of selective discrimination by National Conference, Congress and Peoples Democratic Party.”

He made these remarks while addressing a public rally at Mandi in Poonch district.

Raina was accompanied by BJP general secretary Vibodh Gupta, state executive member Devender Rana, Mohammad Iqbal Malik, district president Mohammed Rafiq Chishti and ex-MLC Pradeep Sharma besides others.

Raina said that no development was done in Rajouri and Poonch by NC, Congress and PDP. He said that these parties only misused the power of democracy to fill their coffers and cheated people in the name of region and religion. He stressed that only the Modi government did justice with the people of Rajouri and Poonch and the people were “benefitted by the genuine public-oriented policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led union government.”

Devender Singh Rana said that the BJP was committed to make all mountainous and hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir part of the growth story unfolded by the Union government. Rana called for a special recruitment drive in police and para military forces for the unemployed youth of LoC and border areas. He also sought creation of special employment avenues for the youth of the border areas of J&K. “All regions, irrespective of religion or caste shall get a fair deal in development and jobs with no region having hegemony over the other as we are for equitable development of all regions and sub-regions,” Rana maintained.

Vibodh Gupta said that justice was done to the Paharis, Gujjars and other communities under the present dispensation whether one talked of political empowerment, reservation or ground development. He insisted that BJP's model of development didn't discriminate on the basis of one's region or religion. Iqbal Malik said that the Pahari population was a “nationalist group which contributed positively in the nation's progress.” He stressed the provision of ST status to Paharis. Mohammed Chishti also joined the cause with him batting for ST status to Pahari population.
