One of the successful operations: DGP

Srinagar: Director General of Police, J&K, Dilbag Singh on Wednesday described the Pulwama encounter, in which two militants were killed on Wednesday, “as one of the successful anti-militancy operations with no collateral damage”.

“This was one of the successful operations as we have eliminated two terrorists who were active in area for quite long time,” DGP told reporters. In the operation on Wednesday, two militants including IED expert Yasir Parray were killed in Qasbayar area of Pulwama in south Kashmir. “Yasir was active since 2019 and was involved in various terror related crimes including killing of two jawans, besides civilians,” the DGP said. He said 12 FIRs were registered against Yasir in different police stations of south Kashmir.

   

The DGP praised Police and other security forces for what he said “the operation was without collateral damage”. “People are operating and behaving very well in maintaining the peace and tranquility in J&K,” the DGP said. “I am hopeful that civilians who have faced atrocities at the hands of Yasir and Furkan would have heaved a sigh of relief,” he said.

J&K DGP said that the militants are carrying activities and all of them are being credited to TRF. “TRF is being handed by Pakistan and its agencies. Any terror out carrying out activities are credited to them,” he said.

Singh said Furkan had entered the Valley through Gurez in Bandipora district and was involved “in luring youth into militant ranks”. “ They misguided even the teenagers. But we won’t allow conspiracies here,” he said.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, a security review meeting for north Kashmir was held at Headquarters of Kilo Force which attended GOC 15 , Lt Gen D P Pandey , Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kashmir, DIG Northern Kashmir, Sector Commanders, SSPs and officials from other security agencies.

Official sources said that during the meeting overall security scenario of Northern Kashmir was discussed. Besides they said strategy to tackle winter was also discussed. “The senior appreciated the prevailing peace in north Kashmir and asked the officers and commanders on ground to be more vigilant,” a senior officer present in the meeting said. “They asked the people on ground to keep close vigil till passes are closed as more terrorists can be pushed to this side.”

Meanwhile, a statement issued here said DGP Dilbag Singh on Wednesday visited south Kashmir districts of Anantnag and Pulwama. He chaired an officers meeting to take stock of the security scenario at DIG South Kashmir Range office at Anantnag . He later visited Pulwama district “to compliment Police and Security Forces for neutralising two dreaded terrorists in an encounter today”, the statement said. IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar and DIG South Kashmir Range Abdul Jabbar accompanied the DGP during his visit to district Pulwama.

He was received by SSP Pulwama Gh. Jeelani Wani, ASP Pulwama Tanveer Ahmad and other gazetted officers of the district.

Complimenting the Police and security forces for successful operation the DGP said that “it was clean operation without any collateral damage”. He complimented the local people for their cooperation and behaviour, adding that “at times some people get involved in unlawful activities during encounters,”. The DGP said that people of south Kashmir have always been cooperative and there is no law and order situation because of public support. He said that Police and people have been working together for peace. He said that Police and security forces are working in great synergy to eliminate remaining terrorists of terror outfits to maintain the peace and order, the statement said.

The DGP said that “Pakistan agents and their handlers here are trying very hard to radicalise the youth of J&K and involve them in terrorism”. As per the statement, he said that J&K Police is making every effort to stop involvement of youth and have remained successful in bringing misguided youth to their home and parents. “He said that Pakistan agents and their handlers are hell bent to disturb the peace here. He said that Pakistan and their agents are trying to push more terrorists during winter season via Rajouri, Poonch and Bandipora, Kupwara borders. He said that our security forces protecting our borders and police in the hinterland are active to thwart any attempt of infiltration” the statement said.

Earlier, on his arrival at Anantnag the DGP was received by IGP Kashmir and DIG SKR. He chaired a meeting of senior officers of district Anantnag.

In the meeting the DGP impressed upon the police officers to strive harder to maintain peace and order in the UT. He emphasized that the police personnel must deal strictly with elements involved in the radicalization of youth and pushing them towards terrorism. He directed the police officers to identify and book the persons involved in these activities. He directed the officers that people’s cooperation is pivotal for the force to achieve more success on the anti-militancy front and emphasised for better police public relations. SSP Anantnag briefed the DGP about the working of Anantnag Police.
