Security heightened in Srinagar

Srinagar: A day after killing of three militants, including a top The Resistance Front (TRF) commander, Srinagar witnessed heightened security on Thursday.

Reports said that security across the summer capital was enhanced and random searches were carried out by joint parties of police and paramilitary forces.

   

They said the number of security personnel deployed has been increased across the city. Besides, extra barricades, checkpoints have been put in place to monitor the movement of traffic.

There were also reports of “speculative CASOs” in parts of Srinagar. However, during operations no one was arrested. “More area dominations have been carried out at almost all parts of Srinagar,” one of the senior police officers said, adding that vigil has been stepped up in Srinagar.

On Thursday, at many places which included TRC crossing, Lal Chowk, Jehangir Chowk, M A Road, Bemina, Parimpora, Bypass, joint teams of police and CRPF were seen checking vehicles and identity cards of the travelers.

“To instil sense of security among the residents, security agencies have taken a slew of additional measures. Random checking of vehicles and frisking of people was being done as part of the security drill. Policemen in civvies have been deployed in every nook and corner of the city to gather the intelligence and monitor the movement of suspects,” the officer said.

“In most parts of the city, CCTV surveillance has been updated and movement of the public is monitored,” the officer added.
