Sonamarg gets visitors as heatwave hits plains

Sonamarg: Tourists have been thronging famous health resort Sonamarg as the heatwave has hit the plains and the second COVID-19 wave is seeing a significant decline resulting into easing of the pandemic restrictions.

The flow of locals to Sonamarg, known as the golden meadow, is also increasing after administration decided to ease the restrictions imposed to prevent after COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the sources, the number of locals has increased further after the authorities imposed a ban on day picnickers to famous tourist resort Pahalgam recently.

Sonamarg, located at a distance of 80 km from Srinagar is one of the most visited summer tourist destinations of Kashmir. Every year scores of visitors throng Sonamarg for camping and picnic. However, the increase in the number of tourists has posed a challenge to the authorities to ensure adherence to Covid protocol by the visitors amid fears of an impending third wave of coronavirus.

People expressed their gratitude to the administration for opening the meadows for the visitors and appealed everyone to follow SOPs so that they can keep on enjoying the freedom of movement.

The administration has issued a slew of guidelines like wearing of facemasks and keeping social distancing for the local tourists to be followed by them before venturing out to the picnic spots.
