Speculative CASOs, random frisking part of additional security measures in Kashmir

Srinagar: The security in Srinagar and elsewhere in Kashmir has been geared up with additional measures that includes speculative CASOs, frisking and extra-surveillance.

These measures are being taken to keep a check on untoward incidents as over the past few weeks, Kashmir, especially Srinagar city, witnessed a spike in terror attacks.

In these attacks victims were shot dead from point blank range mostly with pistols. Security establishments say these attacks are being carried out by hybrid terrorists.

On Wednesday morning, joint parties of J&K police and Central Reserve Police Force carried out search operation in the Saribala area of Srinagar. During the operation, searches were carried out and identify cards of people were checked thoroughly.

Besides, random frisking of vehicles were also reported from many parts of city. The reports of random frisking were also reported from some other parts of Kashmir.

Decisions on extra security measures, an officer said were taken after killing of two persons including a policeman recently by the terrorists in Srinagar.

In Srinagar, extra-check points manned jointly by police and CRPF have been established at several places. At check-points, traffic movement is being monitored very closely.

“We have been carrying speculative CASOs besides frisking of vehicles at various place,” a senior police officer told Greater Kashmir. “The additional measures include surprise check posts and limited Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) in crowded places to terrorists at bay,” the officer said.

“The security grid will put cut-off points on exit routes and use drones to check the movement of elements they consider are inimical to peace,” the officer said adding that they won’t allow anybody to disrupt peaceful environment. “There is checking, frisking, and drone surveillance on the people. We are using technical surveillance,” the officer said.

The presence of security forces around vital installations in and around the city as well as other district headquarters has been increased, the officer said.

One of senior CRPF officials said that they have directed to remain on alert and strengthen and augment the intelligence and security grids in their respective areas for the security of the people. He said that officials of the police and the paramilitary have been directed to maintain close surveillance and track of such elements and bring them to justice as quickly as possible through coordinated measures.

It needs to be mentioned here that makeshift security bunkers now a days are making a comeback and more paramilitary personnel are being deployed following the spate of civilian killings by terrorists in Kashmir over the past some weeks. Security bunkers manned by the central armed paramilitary forces (CAPF) are being set up in many areas of Srinagar city.
