Few inches of snowfall accumulated in Sonamarg-Zojila axis after which the authorities closed the Srinagar-Leh Highway for traffic as a precautionary measure in view of the slippery road conditions.

“No traffic movement on either side of Srinagar-Leh Highway will be allowed on Friday due to snow accumulation,” the traffic advisory said.

Meanwhile, the Mughal road connecting Poonch and Shopian districts via Pir Ki Gali too was closed for traffic due to fresh snowfall in the upper reaches this morning.

Deputy SP Traffic Aftab Shah told Greater Kashmir that early this morning fresh snowfall took place on Mughal road especially near Pir Ki Gali.

“There is an accumulation of snowfall on the road stretch. This coupled with severe cold conditions and frost led to slippery conditions due to which the road was closed for all kinds of vehicles till further orders,” officer said.

He advised people not to move towards Mughal road and follow Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for any kind of moment between Jammu and Srinagar.
