Srinagar records season’s coldest night so far

Srinagar: Following clear skies, night temperatures fell at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, even as the minimum temperature is expected to drop further by several degrees in the coming days. At 1.6 degrees Celsius, Srinagar city witnessed this season's coldest night on Monday.

The same conditions were witnessed in other parts of the valley.

After witnessing over 5 inches of snowfall on Friday, mercury in ski-resort Gulmarg went up by a degree and recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1 degree Celsius.

Pahalgam tourist destination, which also serves as a base camp for the annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius on Monday night, compared to minus 2.3 degrees Celsius the night earlier on Sunday.

Drass, in Ladakh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 12.1 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Qazigund settled at a low of 0.8 degrees Celsius, compared to Sunday night's 1.2 degrees Celsius.

The minimum in Kupwara in north Kashmir, went down from 1.5 degrees Celsius Sunday night to settle at 1.1 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag town in south registered a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius on Monday night.

Jammu city recorded 12.5 degrees Celsius, Katra 11.8 degrees Celsius, Batote 8.0 degrees Celsius, Banihal 5.8 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah 4.7 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures on Monday night.
