Srinagar records season’s first sub-zero temperature

Srinagar: The night temperature in Srinagar went below the freezing point for the first time this season, with mercury settling at minus 0.9 degrees Celsius. The temperature was 0.3 degrees below the normal for this time of the year.

The night temperatures in other parts of the Valley also settled below the freezing point with Kupwara registering this season’s coldest night at minus 1.3 degrees Celsius and Qazigund at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius during the night intervening Saturday and Sunday.

   

Pahalgam, in south Kashmir, remained the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir with a minimum temperature of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius.

The ski-resort of Gulmarg registered a low temperature of 1.8 degree Celsius, 0.2 degrees up from the previous night.

Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded its coldest of the season at minus 0.3 degrees Celsius.

Drass was the coldest recorded place in the Ladakh Union Territory with mercury settling at a low of minus 12.5 degrees Celsius.

Leh recorded a temperature of minus 7.2 degrees Celsius, as compared to the previous night’s minus 7.1 degrees Celsius.

Banihal continued to remain the coldest place in Jammu region and recorded a minimum temperature of 1 degree Celsius, which was 3.1 degrees below the normal. This was also the coldest night so far in Banihal this season.

Jammu city recorded 11.8 degrees Celsius, Katra 10.4 degrees Celsius, Batote 4.9 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah 2.7 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast mostly dry weather in Kashmir till November 20.
