Strict procedure for road, rail entry into J&K

Jammu: Cautioned over the gradual rise in COVID-19 cases, the administration in Kathua district has adopted a strict procedure for the scrutiny of vaccination certificates at Lakhanpur before permitting cross point between J&K and Punjab.

Similarly, the sampling of the travelers has also been intensified at Jammu Airport and Railway Station.

An official said that 150 people were tested for COVID19 at Jammu Airport and around 1500 at Jammu Railway Station.

Whereas, the Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rahul Yadav informed that they have deployed well trained 12 teams to check the people entering in J&K at Lakhanpur.

“We let people go only after checking their vaccination certificates using QR code randomly,” the DC said adding that checking all the people was not possible. “Yesterday, 21700 people crossed Lakhanpur,” he said.

“Of them, 10,000 people cross the border in routine and 19000 people were doubly vaccinated. Rest of the 2000 people were not vaccinated. Thus, these people were permitted entry only after their sampling for COVID19,” the DC added.

“The COVID positive people are admitted in the COVID care centre which is established at Primary Health Centre (PHC), Kharote (Kathua). Presently, 3 non-local COVID positive people are in the centre,” Yadav said.

He further said that “The well trained staff members at Lakhanpur keep a strict eye on the people at the crossing point as a part of COVID19 protocol.”
