Thanamandi Op called off, security on high alert

Rajouri: The anti militancy operation launched in parts of Thanamandi tehsil in Rajouri district has been called off by the security forces with security apparatus in entire district as well as in neighbouring Poonch district continuing to remain on high alert.

The Cordon and Search Operation under this anti militancy operation was started in Khablan village of Thanamandi in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday during which gun shots were also heard by locals from the forest area in village.

   

This anti militancy operation continued till intervening night of Saturday and Sunday after which it has been called off by the security forces.

“We cannot comment much on this but only can say that operation has been called off” said a senior officer.

Meanwhile, the security arrangements in twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch continue to remain on high alert amid intelligence inputs and alerts regarding possible presence of some militants in parts of twin districts.

On the other hand, after a day-long closure on Saturday, the main road connecting Thanamandi sub division with Rajouri district headquarter has been opened for traffic on Sunday after Cordon and Search Operation in Khablan village was called off.

This road was closed for all kinds of vehicles on Saturday morning after a massive Cordon and Search Operation was launched in Khablan village.

Throughout the day on Saturday, officials said, the main road remained close for vehicular movement and people faced immense hardships.

However, the Cordon and Search Operation was called off on Saturday late evening and road was declared open for traffic thereafter.

“On Sunday, vehicles plied normal over the road.” the officials said.

Deputy Superintendent Police (Traffic), Aftab Shah said that Thanamandi road is now open for all kinds of vehicles.
