With sub-zero temperatures, cold conditions continue

Srinagar: As Kashmir has been witnessing foggy conditions during the mornings for the past one week, night temperatures across the Valley have been settling below the freezing point.

As per Meteorological Department data, summer capital Srinagar, recorded minus 1.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday night while ski resort Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius.

   

Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded minus 4.2 degrees Celsius, Qazigund recorded minus 2.2 degrees Celsius and Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius during the night intervening Saturday and Sunday.

Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded minus 3.1 degrees Celsius while Leh in Ladakh recorded a low of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius and Kargil recorded minus 5.4 degrees Celsius.

Director Meteorological Department Center, Srinagar, Sonam Lotus said that as Kashmir is reeling under cold weather conditions “no respite was expected in prevailing weather conditions till November 28”.

Lotus said the temperatures will keep falling till a Western Disturbance, a phenomenon that brings change in weather, will occur and cause increase in night temperatures.
