The Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has completed eight years under house detention, a spokesman of the party said on Friday.
"No court has ever issued any formal house detention order for Geelani," the spokesman said in a statement.
"The rule of law has been thrown to winds in Kashmir," the spokesman said, and strongly condemned Geelani's continued house detention.
He said that the police have so far failed to produce any court order or any administrative document in support of Geelani's "illegal" house detention.
"What is the justification in turning his residence into a sub-jail?" the spokesman asked.
"Stopping pro-freedom leaders from performing their religious, political and social responsibilities is gross violation of human rights and interference in the personnel and religious rights," he said.
