As part of GK Medical Trust outreach medical clinical programme, the GK Medical Diagnostic Laboratory was inaugurated at Leh on Thursday by chief executive councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, Dorjey Motup.
The lab has been set up by the GK Medical Trust (GKMT) in collaboration with Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam (AMI).
President Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Dr Abdul Qayoom; chairman GK Medical Trust and editor-in-chief Greater Kashmir Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo; executive councillors and CMO were present on the occasion.
Chairman GK Medical Trust, Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo at the inaugural event announced that the lab will be converted into fully automated facility in coming six months and “till then we will read the climatic and geographical conditions.”
He said the lab inaugurated today “is capable of carrying out all baseline investigations.”
Earlier, the GKMT and the AMI conducted a two-day free medical and surgical camp in collaboration with the SNM Hospital on October 3 and 4.

Some renowned doctors of the state including Dr Showkat Ali Zargar, former director SKIMS, Dr Muhammad Saleem Wani, head department of urology and kidney transplant unit, SKIMS, Srinagar, Dr Parvez Ahmad Koul, head department of internal and pulmonary medicine, SKIMS, Dr Sajad Peerzada, senior consultant radiology, Srinagar participated in the camp.
Dr Wani performed five surgeries during the camp and provided consultation to 150 patients. Dr Zargar performed 28 endoscopies and provided consultation to 150 patients. Dr Koul provided consultation to 150 patients. Dr Peerzada performed 80 ultrasonography tests.
On the occasion the GK Medical Trust distributed free medicines among all the patients.
CEO, Greater Kashmir Medical Trust, Abid Ahmad Banday while talking to media persons said these camps will be conducted frequently. “Not only in the town of Leh, these camps will be extended and held in the peripheries also,” he said.
CMO, medical superintendent, doctors, surgeons and other paramedical staff of SNM Hospital supported the event.
