Governor Satya Pal Malik Tuesday appointed Jagjit Kumar, former inspector general of police, as a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission.
This newspaper last week exclusively reported the state administrative council's recommendation to appoint Kumar as a member of the premier recruitment agency.
A Kashmir police service officer of 1984-batch, Kumar has handled key positions during his three-decade illustrious career.
Kumar served as SDPO Kothibagh, SP south Jammu, SP Ganderbal, SP CIK, SSP traffic Kashmir, SSP Poonch, DIG Udhampur, IG security, IG traffic and IG technical before attaining superannuation last year.
An officer of impeccable integrity, Kumar was known for pro-public policing during his postings in Kashmir.
With the appointment of Kumar, the number of PSC members has gone up to eight.
Kumar has been appointed against the slot which fell vacant due to completion of term by Lal Chand.
