Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said both the coalition partners want benefits for the Kashmir Police Service (KPS) officers to be at par with the Indian Police Service (IPS) officers.
"I want people to rise from the grassroots level. Whether it is KPS or IPS, both should rise. There are similar promotions in IAS (Indian Administrative Services) and KAS (Kashmir Administrative Services), but there are hurdles somewhere in our KPS," she said.
She said her father and former Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed wanted a police constable to reach the rank of a SP, SSP and even IG. "There are promotions taking place Indian Administrative Services and Kashmir Administrative Services without any conflict. Similarly, I want same kind of promotions in Kashmir Police Services (KPS) too. My partner (BJP) wants it too," Mehbooba said in a bid to brush aside the recent controversy with BJP over restructuring the KPS.
She said none other than the Prime Minister Modi would understand the need of promoting honest and credible people from lower ranks to upper ranks. "I too have evolved from the grassroots level," she said.
