Srinagar, June 15: A gunfight between security forces and militants started at Wagoora Nowgam area on city outskirts here around midnight, police said.
“Encounter started in the Wagoora Nowgam area of Srinagar. Two militants are trapped. Security forces on the job. Further details shall
follow,” Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet tonight.
Official sources said that the encounter broke out after J&K Police and CRPF launched an operation. “The operation was launched
after inputs about the presence of militants in the area,” officials said. “As the searches were started the hiding militants opened.” They said that fire was retaliated following an encounter. “Exchange of fire is going on,” officials said, adding more reinforcements and senior officers have reached the spot. “All the exit and entrance points of the area have been sealed.”
