Srinagar, June 29: The High Court (HC) Tuesday asked its Registrar General to release financial assistance in favour of the deserving lawyers working in different courts of J&K.
A bench of Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey issued the direction after Sajad Ashraf, the government counsel and Assisting Counsel of Advocate General, D C Raina produced a communication dated 24 June 2021 addressed to Registrar General by Additional Secretary to Government, intimating that the Lieutenant Governor has sanctioned an amount of Rs 1 crore as financial assistance in favour of advocates working in different courts of J&K out of the Relief Fund.
“The Registrar General, J&K, High Court, Srinagar, shall expedite the matter for release of amount in favour of the deserving lawyers, who have already applied, so as to ensure their timely help and assistance,” the court said.
The court was hearing a petition seeking direction to the government for granting immediate financial assistance to the tune of Rs 25,000 to each advocate who had earlier received the financial assistance and is in actual practice before the High Court and district courts in Jammu and Kashmir.
The petition also seeks to formulate a medical and life insurance policy for the welfare of the advocates and their family members.
