Srinagar: A rare successful laparoscopic surgery of removal of porcelene gallbladder – a rare condition in which gallbladder turns into a stone - was performed at Ibn I Sina private hospital here.
Senior Consultant Lapascropic surgery, DrRafiqSimnani said a patient from far flung of Ganderbal was suffering from abdomen pain from past one year.
"After examination, it was found out that she has porcelene gallbladder which is a rare case in which instead of gall stones, gallbladder itself becomes a stone," he said.
"This is a very veryvery rare condition of gallbladder known as porcelene gallbladder and this was the first case of this surgery by laparoscopy in India that we performed today on a 70-year-old woman," DrSimnani claimed.
He said that the retrieved ball of stone would be kept in the museum of Government Medical College.
"We have already talked to the concerned department," DrSimnani said.
He said porcelene gallbladder is said to be a high risk factor for the development of gallbladder carcinoma, so needs to be removed, if ever, diagnosed.
