Highway open, but over 300 oil tankers stranded

Amid acute shortage of petroleum products in Kashmir, more than 300 fuel tankers are stranded along the Srinagar-Jammu highway since Wednesday, officials said.

Inspector general of traffic police Alok Kumar told Greater Kashmir on Sunday that the movement of these tankers carrying petrol, diesel and LPG towards Kashmir has been stalled as a major portion of the highway has sunk between Kud and Patnitop areas.

“The movement (of tankers) is not possible as the road could not be fully restored even today by the highway authorities,” Kumar said.
