The screening committee of Jammu and Kashmir Government on IPS promotions Friday cleared elevation of six Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) as Inspector Generals (IGs).

The panel headed by Chief Secretary BR Sharma and comprising Principal Secretary Home, R K Goyal and Director General of Police (DGP) K. Rajendra met this afternoon in the Civil Secretariat and cleared the promotions . The recommendation of the panel would be placed before the State cabinet for approval which would subsequently lead to reshuffle in the police department.

Official sources told Greater Kashmir that the panel gave its go-ahead for promotion of Viplav Kumar Choudary (DIG Traffic Jammu), Garib Das (DIG (admin) Police Headquarters, Surinder Kumar Gupta (DIG, Udhampur-Reasi range), Johny William (DIG, Rajouri-Poonch range) and Ahfadul Mujtaba (Director, SSG J&K) as IGs.

The committee, however, did not clear promotion of Alok Kumar, a 97-batch officer.

While the former four officers are of 1997 batch, Mujataba belongs to 98-batch of the service.

It also accorded proforma promotion to Vijay Kumar, who is on deputation with paramilitary CRPF.

Sources said the issue of seniority of 1999 batch KPS officers also came up during the meeting and it was decided that State Home department will submit a detailed report to Chief Secretary on the seniority issue.
