It was mass uprising against unholy alliance: Congress
The opposition Congress on Monday described the five-month-long agitation in Kashmir as mass uprising against the "unholy PDP-BJP Government", while the National Conference said "atrocities and oppression unleashed in Kashmir during this period has hurt India's image in the world". The House also included the civilians killed in Kashmir unrest in the obituary reference on Opposition's demand.
Terming the situation in Kashmir as mass uprising against 'unholy' alliance, Congress Legislature Party Leader Nawang Rigzin Jora said that there is deep anger among the people over 'unholy' alliance and Burhan Wani just became a symbol of this.
"Don't call it unrest or law and order problem. It was mass uprising," he said, adding, "The alliance has deeply hurt the psyche of Kashmiris."
Veteran NC leader Muhammad Shafi Uri said the oppression and atrocities committed in Kashmir has hurt India's image in the world.
He said the government should constitute a commission to probe the killings and oppression in Kashmir.
"Terming unrest as another law and order problem is not the solution, government should probe all the incidents related to situation and fix accountability on persons responsible for killing of people," he asserted.
MLA Langate Er. Rashid said inclusion of the youth killed in Kashmir unrest, in the obituary reference, was testimony to the fact that they were innocent.
"The only way to escape loss of human lives is to address the core issue," he said.
Earlier, the Speaker allowed including the civilians killed in Kashmir in the obituary reference read out in the House after NC MLA Muhammad Shafi Uri, supported by other lawmakers, demanded it.
