ITBP trooper killed, 34 injured as bus rolls down into gorge on Kashmir highway

A private bus carrying paramilitary personnel met with an accident on Kashmir highway on Monday morning, leaving at least one trooper dead and 34 others injured.

A police official said a private bus (JK 04 5359) carrying Indo-Tibetan border police (ITBP) personnel from Kashmir to Jammu skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge in Ramban district.

   

Five of the injured ITBP personnel are in a critical condition, a police officer said.

The vehicle was part of a Jammu-bound convoy and the accident occurred near Khuni Nallah in Ramban district around 8.45 am, he said.

The official said the ill-fated bus was being driven by Nazir Ahmad who was also injured in the mishap. 

SSP Ramban Anita Sharma confirmed the death of one soldier. The deceased was identified as Constable Mohammad Ahmed Ali.

Eleven injured were referred to GMC&H Jammu for specialised treatment. An official said that nine injured were airlifted while two more were shifted to Jammu by road.
