52 kg heroin worth `100 crore seized at JhajjarKotli: Police

Jammu: A resident of Haryana was arrested at JhajjarKotli and 52 kg heroin was recovered from his possession while travelling from Kashmir to Punjab, Police said Thursday.

Addressing a news conference, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu, Mukesh Singh said, “Police received specific information based on which a checkpoint was established and checking intensified.

   

During checking, a truck bearing the registration number of Haryana tried to evade checking. However, Police intercepted the truck but the driver Bharat Kumar of Kurukshetra, Haryana escaped from the spot but his co-driver was arrested.”

He said, according to initial investigation, a huge drug consignment was being taken to Punjab from Srinagar.

“The seized consignment has a market value of around Rs 100 crore and the packets in which the narcotics were kept had ‘1999’ marking,” Singh said. “In the past too, Police has recovered ‘1999’ marking drugs that were smuggled from Pakistan.”

He said that Police would be able to find out the links on how and where from the consignment had come.

Singh said that Police in Jammu during the last 2 years had seized 185 kg heroin having a market value of approximately Rs 360 crore.

He said that during this period 1500 people had been arrested including 6 booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in 1200 such cases.

Singh said that Police had seized 500 kg charas, 2500 poppy straw, and 185 kg heroin.

He said that Police have also recovered Rs 2.5 crore from the drug traders which was to be used in violence-related activities.
